Sometimes things sneak up on you, surprise and amaze you with no effort on your part at all.
That’s what happened to me with my little miracle book.
It started when I decided to reread “Hiring the Heavens” by Jean Slatter. (And do the work set out in the book.) I have read it once or twice before with some, but little, effort on my part. I enjoyed it all the same. And I love how the author is succinct! It is a tiny little book that is easy to read.
While I was reading, the thought came to me that I would want a new journal to use as a workbook. (I love journals! And boxes!) And then a following thought of ‘perhaps a binder would be better because I could add pages, move them around and even make some sketches because I could use unlined paper’. Of course this thought was followed by, ‘oh, binders aren’t very pretty; I’ll just get a journal and the front and back of a page will have to be enough because writing in a beautiful book is more important to me.’
As you can see, I got a wee bit sidetracked from my reading. But I did finish the chapter and then went on with my day.
On the morning’s agenda was taking my mom to the dentist. As we were driving, we were chatting about greeting cards – my mom still is a wonderful sender of “good mail” as we call it. Frequently she sends people cards that I have made but she does like to have others on hand ‘in case’ or if she is sending a card to me! We got to a red light and as we were waiting, she asked about a store next to the traffic light. I told her how big it was and reminded her that she had once found some cards there. So I told her on the way home we could stop and look in the store.
An hour later, she went off to the card section of the store. I remembered they sold journals so off I went to see what they had on their shelves. Turns out they had a fairly large section at the back. So I flipped through them; most had lines – which I expected. Then on the top shelf were some solid colored leather journals. I looked at one with a tree on it. It was kind of pretty and had a tie – that’s kind of fun. I opened it. No lines! AND it was a little binder! What?! Absolutely amazing. Everything I wanted for my new workbook and more than I thought I’d get. And it still delights me how many things had to fall into place that day for me to find…
…my little miracle book.
